Who we are

The Daily Liar is developed and published by Origami Solutions OÜ (“we”, “us”, “our”), registry code 14393256, of Sepapaja 6, Tallinn 15551, Estonia. We are the data controller for the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation.

This policy applies to The Daily Liar on the Apple App Store and Google Play, and to this website. Origami Solutions also keeps a company-wide privacy policy covering its other products and its websites; that policy describes what the company may collect in general, and this one describes what this game and this site actually do. Where the two differ about The Daily Liar, this page governs, and it is the narrower of the two.

What the game does not collect

The game contains no analytics, no advertising, no tracking software, and no third-party software development kits that gather information about you. We do not build a profile of you, and we have no ability to identify an individual player.

Specifically, we do not collect your name, email address, phone number, postal address, date of birth, location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera input, advertising identifier (IDFA or Google Advertising ID), device identifier, IP address, or any record of how you play.

What is stored on your device

The game saves your progress, your settings and your record of past editions locally on your device, so that you can pick up where you left off. That information stays on the device and is never sent to us or to anyone else. Deleting the game removes it.

If you have enabled iCloud backup or Google backup, your operating system may include this saved data in your own device backup. That backup is controlled by you and by Apple or Google, not by us.

What Apple and Google handle

The game is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play. Those platforms collect information when you download, install, buy, or report a problem with an app, and they pass a limited amount of it back to us. We receive only aggregate figures — downloads by country, purchases, crash and performance reports, and the reviews you choose to leave publicly. None of it identifies you.

The unlock

Today’s edition and the serial are free. Back issues are a single one-off purchase.

The purchase is processed entirely by Apple or Google, using the payment method already on your store account. We never see or handle your card number, your billing address, or any other payment detail. When a purchase completes, the store hands the game a receipt confirming it, and the game uses that receipt only to unlock and to restore what you have bought. It is not used to identify you.

Refunds are handled by the store you bought from, not by us. You can ask for one through Apple’s refund page or Google Play order history.

Children

Because the game collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children either. In line with our company-wide policy we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16 without a parent’s verifiable consent, and there is no mechanism in the game by which we could.

The game does offer the one purchase described above. Parents and guardians can restrict or disable purchases through Screen Time on iOS or parental controls on Google Play.

Sharing and selling

We do not sell, rent, share or trade personal information, because we hold none. We have no advertising partners, no data brokers and no analytics providers. The only third parties involved are Apple and Google, in their role as the stores that distribute the game and take payment for the unlock.

Your rights

The GDPR, the UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act and comparable laws elsewhere give you the right to see, correct, delete, export or object to the processing of personal data a company holds about you.

We hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing for us to retrieve, correct or erase. To delete everything the game has stored, uninstall it. To exercise these rights against your app store account, contact Apple or Google directly. If you want to ask us anyway, write to privacy@origami.solutions and we will answer within 30 days.

You may also complain to your local supervisory authority. Ours is the Estonian Data Protection Inspectorate, www.aki.ee/en.

Security

The strongest protection for your data is that we never receive it. What the game saves stays on your device, under your device’s own protection, and the purchase is secured by Apple’s and Google’s payment systems. Where Origami Solutions does hold data for its other products, it is encrypted in transit and at rest and held within the EU, as the company-wide policy sets out.

This website

This site carries no advertising, no analytics and no cookies. The typefaces are served from this site rather than from a font network, so no third party is told that you visited. The demo edition on the front page is scored in your browser and remembers nothing between page loads.

The company that hosts the site may keep ordinary server logs, including IP addresses, for the security and operation of the server. We do not use them to build any profile of a reader, and we do not combine them with anything else.

Changes to this policy

If the game or this site changes in a way that affects your privacy, we will update this page and revise the date at the top. Substantial changes will also be noted in the release notes on the App Store and Google Play. Continuing to use the game after an update means you accept the revised policy.
